Somnutron tube preamplifier with tremolo and rotating speaker effect
This started off as an amplifier we made in a combo amp experiment. The tremolo of the thing had this gorgeous out-of-phase deal going on, we sold the combo and rebuilt the pre-amp in this handy metal enclosure. This device features turret board construction, point to point wiring, one 12AX7 and one 12AU7 , "UN-TRUE" bypass switching via remote 1/4" jack or a switch on the front, also usable as a very hot gain boost.. . .
Diabolical (Ge) Unit Fuzz - hand selected Germanium transistors
In high school i had a gnarly fuzz pedal that was supposed to run on an AA battery but somebody had hooked it up to a 9 volt.. This is a weird little copy of what that thing ended up as after years of meddling in that pedal's guts. This fuzz unit is unusually smooth, never quite clean, and over-the-top when necessary. True bypass, green LED indicator and tight metallic bronze finish, 9 volt adapter included(battery not...)
Diabolical Matter Disorganizer - fuzz and high octave
I think this pedal may actually be from another dimension. With a definite nod to the "Shin Ei- barking octave" and high quality eyelet-board construction , this pedal stuns and amazes. Features True-bypass switching plus a separate LED and footswitch to kick in the octave effect. My bass player tried it as well and we agreed it was John-Wetton-ish but more completely nuts. Strange grey finish gives it the look and feel of finely polished concrete...
Diabolical Cliptron - fuzz
There seems to be a problem with us here in that we are often reluctant to build traditional-sounding electronics. This pedal is as absolutely normal and featureless as they come, but the innards (not pictured) are eyelet board and hard-wire. Nice little overdrive/ boost with true bypass switching, NO LED, and bass boost toggle switch. ICKY greenish-yellowish-brownish finish.
The preceding samples were recorded under the following conditions: Heritage LP style guitar with humbuckers through effect into 67 Ampeg Gemini into an SM57 , mixer, USB port, etc. Recoded at a temperature of 62 degrees after perhaps 2 beers.
